Wuhan, “Han” for short, also known as the “River City”, is located at the intersection of the Yangtze River and the Han River in eastern Hubei Province in central China. It is the capital of Hubei Province, serving as a famous historical and cultural city, an important industrial, scientific and educational base, and a comprehensive transportation hub in China. It extends between latitudes 29°58′N and 31°22′N and longitudes 113°41′E and 115°05′E.

Taking Wuhan as the center, the area within 1,000 kilometers covers nearly 1 billion people and about 90% of China’s GDP. It takes about 4 hours to get to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi’an and other important cities in China by high-speed rail from Wuhan.

Wuhan has long been known as the “River City” and the “City of Hundreds of Lakes”. Wuhan surpasses other big cities in the world with 26.1% of its urban area covered by waters, including 165 rivers and 166 lakes. Favored by numerous mountains and rivers, Wuhan has a pleasant ecological environment and is rated a National Forest City and a National Garden City.
